Accessibility Statement
Last updated: September 7, 2026
CFSSC is committed to ensuring that our website and online food safety certification courses are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We are working to meet the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (Ontario Regulation 191/11), which require websites to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA.
What we have done
- A “Skip to main content” link is available at the top of every page for keyboard and screen-reader users.
- All pages can be navigated using a keyboard alone, and the element that has keyboard focus is clearly highlighted.
- Pages use a logical heading structure and page regions (header, navigation, main content, footer) so assistive technology can move through them.
- Images that carry information have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Text and button colours meet the WCAG 2.0 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
- Links in body text are underlined so they do not rely on colour alone.
- Form fields have labels that assistive technology can read, and error messages are shown in text.
- The moving background video on the home page can be paused, and it does not play for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion.
- Text can be resized up to 200% in the browser without loss of content or function, and the site works on mobile devices and at high zoom levels.
- The site is available in English and Simplified Chinese, and the page language is declared so screen readers use the correct voice.
Known limitations
We test the site regularly, but some parts are provided by third-party services and may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.0 AA:
- Online exam proctoring. Our certification exam uses a third-party proctoring service that requires a camera and microphone. If you cannot use this service because of a disability, please contact us and we will arrange an alternative way to complete your exam.
- Course videos. We are reviewing all course videos to make sure captions and transcripts are available. If you need a caption or transcript for a specific lesson, please contact us.
- Payment pages. Payment is processed by an external provider. If you have difficulty completing a payment, we can take your registration by phone.
Alternative formats and accommodations
If you need course materials, certificates or any other content from this website in an alternative format (for example large print, plain text or a format compatible with your assistive technology), or if you need an accommodation to take a course or an exam, please contact us. We will work with you to provide it in a timely manner, at no extra cost.
Feedback and contact
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you encounter a barrier, please tell us which page you were on and what happened, and we will respond within five business days.
