Requirements for the online course (website)
- A computer, tablet or smartphone with a current web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Safari).
- A stable internet connection.
- A valid email address, used to create your account and to receive exam results and certificate notifications.
- The ability to open and print a PDF file (your certificate is issued as a PDF).
Requirements for the online proctored exam (AutoProctor)
The final exam is written online and is monitored by AutoProctor, an automated proctoring service. No software download is needed. To take the exam you will need:
- Computer: a desktop or laptop computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) with a single screen. Extra monitors must be disconnected before the exam starts. Please do not use a phone or tablet: screen monitoring is only available on a computer, and switching apps or cameras on a mobile device can end your exam.
- Webcam: a working built-in or USB webcam that stays on for the entire exam. Position it so your face is clearly visible and the room is well lit. Do not switch cameras during the exam, as this ends the attempt.
- Microphone: a working built-in or external microphone. Audio is monitored throughout the exam.
- Browser: the latest version of Google Chrome (recommended) or Mozilla Firefox. Microsoft Edge on Windows and Safari on Mac are also supported. You must allow camera, microphone and screen-sharing access when the browser asks, and choose “Entire Screen” when prompted to share your screen.
- Internet: a stable high-speed connection. A wired connection or strong Wi-Fi is recommended, as the exam streams your camera and screen.
- Photo ID: a valid government-issued photo ID (for example a driver’s licence, passport or permanent resident card). You can hold it up to the webcam or upload a photo taken with your phone.
- Environment: a quiet, private, well-lit room with no other people present and no notes, textbooks or second devices within reach.
How exam integrity is protected
- Identity verification: before the exam begins, you capture your government-issued photo ID and a live photo. AutoProctor matches the face on the ID to the person at the webcam, and the exam is tied to your registered CFSSC account.
- Continuous monitoring: your webcam, microphone and computer screen are monitored from the moment the exam starts until it is submitted. Photos are taken at random intervals, and image, audio and screen evidence of any flagged event is saved with your attempt.
- Automated detection: the system flags events such as your face leaving the camera, more than one person in view, voices or unusual noise, switching to another tab or window, and the use of multiple screens.
- Human review: every attempt receives an integrity score. Attempts with flagged activity are automatically placed under review, and a CFSSC administrator examines the evidence before any result or certificate is released. Attempts that show cheating or unauthorized assistance are voided.
- Certificate release: a certificate is issued only after both the passing score and the integrity review are confirmed. Each enrolment includes a limited number of exam attempts.
